Occupational Therapy and Low Vision

Occupational therapy provides treatment for individuals with low vision that is caused by macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and other eye diseases. What services can OT provide?

  • Recommendation and training on use of assistive technology (e.g. magnifiers, CCTVs, and other low- or high-tech devices)
  • Support and development of habits and routines for health and disease management behaviors.
  • Visual compensatory strategies to use health management devices
  • Falls prevention through environmental modification and visual scanning training
  • Task-specific training for daily activities and home management (e.g. cooking, paying bills, laundry, medication management) through finding optimal lighting, contrast, use of tactile features, and application of assistive technology.

As an Occupational Therapist and Certified Aging in Place Specialist, I provide detailed in-home evaluations and recommendations for home modifications, durable medical equipment, assistive technology, and design that emphasizes safety, ergonomics, functionality, and accessibility. 

We accept and bill health insurance when the home evaluation is considered medically necessary per insurance guidelines. We also offer self-pay options.
